ABOUT

My name is Les Anderson, a lifelong resident of Goodhue County, and I am running for Commissioner of District One which is basically the west half of Red Wing and Welch township. I’ve never really thought about running for public office, but after observing some of the events from around the country, I started to appreciate the quality of life we have in Goodhue County. Also, after becoming a grandparent, it has made me think of what kind of world we are leaving for our future generations. Having seen other parts of the state and the country, I believe more than ever that Goodhue County is truly a special place to live, work, and raise a family.

A little bit about myself - I was born and have spent my entire life in Welch Township. I farm alongside my wife Jeanne of 30 years, and together we have 3 grown daughters. Along with farming, I am a real estate broker, and have had the opportunity to serve on several boards:

  • AgPartners/Farmers Elevator - (22 years)

  • First National Bank/Merchants Bank Advisory (21 years)

  • Minnesota Corn Growers-Current President (9 years)

  • Goodhue County Pork Producers (6 years)

  • Cannon River Lutheran Church (12 years)

Having the opportunity to serve on these boards has not only given me insight on how these various organizations work, but they have taught me how to work with others, and how to focus on the big picture. I have also gained a lot of relationships and experience working with our representatives on a state and federal level on both sides of the aisle by serving on Minnesota Corn Growers.

My main issues of concern are:

  • Positive Business Climate - We need to retain and attract businesses to Goodhue County. Healthy businesses fuel the economic engine that keeps the county thriving.

  • Public Safety - I support our Sheriff's department and all the other peacekeepers, firefighters, first responders in the county. We take for granted the hard work it takes for us to enjoy our sense of security and freedom.

  • Roads and Bridges - Good roads are the life blood of rural communities, and take long range planning to build and maintain.

  • Housing - We need to look for ways to provide affordable housing and also encourage home ownership. A strong county starts with strong neighborhoods.

  • Sustainable Farming Policies - Goodhue County is blessed with great farmland and farmers. We need farms of all shapes and sizes to allow farmers to do what they do best - provide food for the rest of the nation while preserving our soil, air, and water resources. We also need to take care our most precious crop, our next generation of farmers.

When I look at candidates, in addition to stances on issues, I also want to know more about their background, so I'm going to use this Facebook page to go in more detail on both.

I am happy to take phone calls or meet however you feel comfortable during this unusual campaign season.
